“Be the Light” Suicide Prevention and Awareness Walk
September 21, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
From 2012 to 2016 64 Orange County citizens lost their lives to suicide. On September 21st Healthy Carolinians of Orange County, in partnership with the Orange County Health Department and Cardinal Innovations, are hosting the “Be the Light” Suicide Prevention Walk to support survivors and to share how to recognize the signs and symptoms of suicide and what to do if a loved one or friend is in danger. Event details:
- September 21, 2018 “Be the Light” Suicide Prevention Awareness Walk
Gold Park and Riverwalk, 415 Dimmocks Mill Rd, Hillsborough, NC 27278
- 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
- Meet at the pavilion at Gold Park.
The walk will begin at Gold Park with a moment of silence. The featured speaker is Phillip J. Roundtree, MSW, MS. Roundtree’s message speaks to “resilience through coping” and is driven by his professional and personal experiences. His transparency, as it relates to his personal journey in coping with depression, anxiety, and multiple suicide attempts gives a face, voice, and hope to those who’ve yet to recognize their emotional and cognitive strength. He will share ways to help prevent suicide by learning to recognize the signs and symptoms. As a visual reminder of the 64 Orange County citizens who lost their lives to suicide from 2012 to 2016, 64 pairs of donated shoes will be on display. To donate shoes, contact Kiana Redd at email@example.com or 919.245.2379. After the walk the shoes will be donated to the Club NOVA Thrift Shop.
