Learn About Town Programs While Celebrating the Earth
Citizens will have an opportunity to learn about some of the town’s environmental initiatives at this year’s Earth Evening event.
The annual Earth Evening environmental education event, to be held 6-8 p.m. on Friday, April 27 at the Farmers Market Pavilion, 140 E. Margaret Lane, will include booths for the town’s Stormwater and Environmental Services Division and the Hillsborough Tree Board.
The Stormwater and Environmental Services Division will have an exhibit demonstrating where stormwater runoff goes, how it gets polluted and how pollution can be reduced. Stormwater and Environmental Services Manager Terry Hackett and Stormwater Coordinator Heather Fisher will be on hand to answer questions.
The Hilsborough Tree Board’s booth will feature a pollinator theme, with an interactive game and information about best practices for protecting pollinators and increasing pollinator habitat. The Tree Board oversees the town’s Bee City USA program and has partnered with area organizations to create and maintain the Gold Park pollinator garden and Bee Hotel. Board members will be on hand to answer questions.
Other environmental and hands-on activities provided by local and state agencies will be available during the event, which is hosted by Orange County. A special recycling drop-off will be available for cooking oil, batteries, cell phones and fluorescent light bulbs.
