The Life and Legacy of Elizabeth Keckly
February 26 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Elizabeth Hobbs Keckly’s life began in slavery. Her journey included difficult and harsh years in Hillsborough as a servant of the Burwell family — but the story goes farther, to freedom, business and professional success, and a role in the Lincoln White House. Hear about her life and legacy from two knowledgeable speakers: Stephen Peck, local historian, and Dr. Sylvia Hoffert, professor of history and women’s studies, both of whom have studied Keckly’s life in depth.
