DESCRIPTION:Experience American history through the unique perspective of one of North Carolina’s oldest and most historically significant towns\, with a guided walking tour of downtown Hillsborough. Established in 1754 as the seat of government for Orange County\, Hillsborough’s colonial legacy and signs of its importance in North Carolina and American history can be seen everywhere. \nThe tour begins at the Hillsborough Visitors Center\, located in the eighteenth century Alexander Dickson Farm House\, and guides visitors to a variety of historic places from the site of a 1790s African American-owned distillery to the 1840s Orange County Courthouse and the grave of one of North Carolina’s signers of the Declaration of Independence. \nThis is an in-person walking tour that sometimes crosses uneven terrain. Please plan to be walking or standing for the duration of the event\, wear comfortable walking shoes\, and bring a water bottle (plus your curiosity)! \nFor groups that are concerned about the length\, duration\, or terrain of the tour. SUMMARY:From Frame to Face: Puppet Foundations Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In preparation for Spring 2027’s Handmade Puppet Parade\, join us to take the first steps in constructing your very own puppet! At this workshop\, you will learn how to build the skeleton (armature) of your puppet\, sculpt its face\, and add details with papier-mâché. By the end of this workshop\, you should have a good start to your puppet and walk away with our DIY puppet manual to continue progress on your creation. \nRegistration Fee: $25 per person \nChild/adult pairs only require one ticket to attend (if collaborating on one puppet). \n​Ages 12 and up. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. \nSpace is limited\, and first-come\, first-serve! \nOur Instructor: Sol Ramirez \nSol Ramirez is the founder and director of 1\,2\,3 Puppetry\, a puppet theater company based in Chapel Hill. This group is dedicated to leveraging puppetry\, acting\, music\, and movement to champion social justice and shed light on underrepresented issues.
