DESCRIPTION:Orange County’s Largest and Oldest Event!\nSince 1983!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHog Day has been a community and family tradition for over 40 years here in Orange County. The festival has been running since 1983 and raises funds for youth programs and services throughout the county. 100% of the profit from this event will go towards supporting children’s projects\, schools\, and nonprofit organizations within Orange County. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs the county’s largest and oldest event\, we feature a BBQ contest\, arts and craft vendors\, car show\, children’s area and much more in historic downtown Hillsborough. Held in mid-September\, we have been featured year after year as one of the top events in the southeast and the country. We encourage you to come and visit\, inquire about being a vendor\, and explore our downtown. Our event is rich in history and has received national recognition as one of the top festivals in America. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe highlight of the festival is the BBQ. Veteran cooking teams will be competing for top honors. \nNone of this would be possible without the support of dozens of volunteers that work before and during the days of the events from cooking BBQ\, to selling t-shirts\, or providing publicity. Two other vital groups to our success are our sponsors and vendors. These groups provide the financial support to make Hog Day a success year after year.  From our humble beginnings as a small community event to receiving as many as 50\,000 visitors annually\, we offer great family fun.

SUMMARY:Historic Hillsborough Guided Tours 2026
DESCRIPTION:Experience American history through the unique perspective of one of North Carolina’s oldest and most historically significant towns\, with a guided walking tour of downtown Hillsborough. Established in 1754 as the seat of government for Orange County\, Hillsborough’s colonial legacy and signs of its importance in North Carolina and American history can be seen everywhere. \nThe tour begins at the Hillsborough Visitors Center\, located in the eighteenth century Alexander Dickson Farm House\, and guides visitors to a variety of historic places from the site of a 1790s African American-owned distillery to the 1840s Orange County Courthouse and the grave of one of North Carolina’s signers of the Declaration of Independence. \nThis is an in-person walking tour that sometimes crosses uneven terrain. Please plan to be walking or standing for the duration of the event\, wear comfortable walking shoes\, and bring a water bottle (plus your curiosity)! \nFor groups that are concerned about the length\, duration\, or terrain of the tour. SUMMARY:Music at Thornfield Heritage Farm
DESCRIPTION:Unwind and join us for our last event before we close for July and August when the real heat sets in. Chris Cole will entertain us with his amazing voice and guitar. We will have a hay ride and lots of animals for you to visit\, including Valais sheep and lambs\, kunekune pigs\, Nigerian Dwarf goats\, Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dogs\, Endangered Breeds of waterfowl\, and our most popular\, giant breeds of rabbits and babies that live freely in our orchard. You are welcome to bring your own snacks\, but for your convenience\, we offer inexpensive snacks at our farm store\, including ice-cold beverages\, chilled applesauce pouches\, favorite pre-packaged snacks\, and of course\, Hillsborough’s own Whitt’s ice cream sandwiches!! Gates open at 1:30 pm. \nAfter our hot-weather break\, we will reopen on September 12th with Casey Clark!! Future 2026 events are: 9/19 with Chris Cole\, 10/03 with Casey Clark\, 10/17 with Chris Cole\, and 10/24 with Caleb McArthur & Whiskey Ridge Outlaws.
