She works in multiple media\, primarily printmaking and fiber arts. She pulls inspiration from folk art\, heirlooms\, ancestry\, magic\, nature and whimsy. Jillian is the lower school art instructor at Camelot Academy and a regular instructor at the Durham Arts Council. She believes that creativity is a sacred birthright and helping folks discover and nurture their own creativity brings her great joy.

SUMMARY:Preservation Hillsborough Pottery Sale
DESCRIPTION:Preservation Hillsborough (PH) announces a special sale of beautiful NC pottery\, lovingly\ncollected over a 25-year period from the storied potteries of Seagrove\, NC and donated to PH\nby Robert and Callie Connor. \nThe sale includes a variety of styles and items selected for their beauty and utility\, primarily\nfrom the Cole’s\, Seagrove\, and Dover Potteries. The sale will be open from 9 – 4 on May 14 at\nthe historic Norwood-Jones Law Office on Court Street in Hillsborough. \nAll proceeds will benefit the restoration of Dickerson Chapel AME Church\, whose structure\nincorporates the town’s oldest surviving public building — its second courthouse\, built in 1790\nand moved in 1845 two blocks north. The building was used seqentually as a Baptist church\, a\nmeeting place for abolitionists\, a workshop for building coffins\, a freedman’s school\, and a\nplace of worship and a congregation of the American Methodist Episcopal church\, which it\nremains today. The 230-year-old infrastructure is in great need of restoration. Preservation\nHillsborough\, (PreservationHillsborough.org) which has served for 50 years to preserve\nsignificant structures in the town\, is raising funds needed to see the structure safely through its\nthird century. All proceeds from pottery sale will go to the preservation of Dickerson Chapel.

Jillian is the lower school art instructor at Camelot Academy and a regular instructor at the Durham Arts Council. According to PSNC president\, Daphne Boder\, the goal of the statewide competition is to collaborate with the other regional societies in promoting the beauty of the soft pastel medium. Artwork on display will showcase the talents of these member artists some of whom have earned “master “status both nationally and internationally.  Winners are awarded cash and art prizes sponsored by North Carolina merchants and member groups. \nSoft pastel is a loved medium used by many modern artists such as Zaria Foreman and Deborah Stewart and classical greats including Vermeer\, Degas and Renoir. Prized for its brilliant color\, pastel was first used in the sixteenth century\, notably by Leonardo da Vinci. It flourished in the eighteenth century\, again in the late nineteenth century\, and remains popular today. \nAbout Pastel Society of North Carolina: \nFounded in 1996\, the goal of the society is to provide fellowship and encouragement\, promote standards of excellence in the use of the medium and further the education of the general community to the intrinsic beauty and permanency of art created from soft pastels. \n\nAbout the Live Music: Triangle Jazz Orchestra \nThe Triangle Jazz Orchestra is a big band composed of enthusiastic musicians from across the Triangle area of North Carolina. We perform the great American music of the jazz masters of the Swing Era\, including Count Basie\, Duke Ellington\, Glenn Miller\, Artie Shaw\, Benny Goodman\, and Benny Carter as well as more recent jazz and blues tunes. Our 20 musicians including a vocalist play in the traditional big band format with a full horn section for rich harmonies and a complete rhythm section for a driving\, danceable beat.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a unique sound experience at the Eno Arts Mill and Gallery the Second Saturday of each month. With each new exhibition of art in the gallery space\, we will explore concepts that are shared between the mediums of visual art and sound. Please bring a yoga mat\, cushion\, and comfort items for extended shavasana. We gather in the gallery space at 9:30. Attendees can choose one piece as a focus\, or bring the effect of the overall show to their mats and into meditation. There will be an opportunity for sharing and discussion before we end at 10:30.
