DESCRIPTION:Beginning in the 4th book of the Outlander series and the 5th season of the hit TV show\, Jamie and Claire Fraser settle in a fictional Scottish community in North Carolina. The story intertwines with that of the Regulator Uprising that took place in and around Hillsborough in the 1770s\, making Hillsborough a natural location for this event.\n\nThe tour will begin at the Hillsborough Visitor Center and will take you along the Frasers’ footsteps to see many of the sites featured within the Outlander series relating to Hillsborough and the Regulator uprising prior to the Revolutionary War. \nThis is an in-person walking tour that sometimes crosses uneven terrain. Please plan to be walking or standing for the duration of the event\, wear comfortable walking shoes\, and bring a water bottle (plus your curiosity). A family festival of fun in downtown Hillsborough in beautiful River Park. \nThe festival has been running since 1983 and raises funds for youth programs and services throughout the county. As the county’s largest and oldest event\, we feature a BBQ contest\, arts and craft vendors\, car show\, children’s area and much more in historic downtown Hillsborough. Held in mid-September\, we have been featured year after year as one of the top events in the southeast and the country. We encourage you to come and visit\, inquire about being a vendor\, and explore our downtown. \nThe highlight of the festival is the BBQ. Candy for every child at the end of the barn (if you survive!) and a pumpkin patch so you can pick out your perfect pumpkin! \nWitch Hazel has been busy conjuring up all sorts of spirits\, and the Haunted Barn has it all: A coffin fitting room\, complete with outfits for your eternal rest\, a graveyard full of unsettled souls\, Aliens\, First and Last Aid with a Mad Doctor\, Spiders\, spiders\, and more spiders\, Creepy Dolls\, a haunted nursery – ring around a rosie\, pocket full of posies…\, a fire swamp\, a coffin in the kitchen where the Kitchen Crone is whipping up delectable goodies\, Skellies everywhere\, The Butcher’s room\, Hallway of Horrors (and clowns)\, the Vault\, the Dungeon\, a Witches Coven and so much more. \nIn addition to the barn: See the horses\, donkeys\, goats and chickens. Spend time walking around the farm on our trails – the Pond Walk and Pasture walk and the labyrinth are open! Enjoy food and crafts from our vendors\, make a craft\, and pick out your perfect pumpkin from our patch.  It’s a wonderful way to spend a Saturday in the Fall. \nPhotography and Costumes are encouraged. DESCRIPTION:Join the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough and The Orange Community Players for our annual Spirit‘s Tours. Come face-to-face with our ghostly residents to hear the chilling tales of Hillsborough’s spooky past.\nTours last approximately one hour. The ghost performances are family-friendly\, but please be aware that this is a walking tour over several blocks\, and may include hills and uneven ground. \nSchedule – Tours will begin at 6pm. Tours start every 20 minutes. DESCRIPTION:The annual walking tour of unconventional gingerbread exhibits returns to Hillsborough’s downtown shop windows this holiday season from December 7 to January 5.  The event celebrates artistic sculpture: creations can be made of any material as long as the visible elements are edible. The public is invited to submit creative interpretations of this year’s theme\, “Winter Wonderland” within the Adult or Youth & Family categories; registration is open Nov. 1-27. Voting for People’s Choice Awards will take place through Dec 20 and winners will be announced at the town’s Solstice Lantern Walk on Dec 21.  \n
