SUMMARY:Camp Chestnut Ridge Trail Run
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Chestnut Ridge on November 22\, 2025 for our Annual Trail Run! We have a 4 mile option for runners/walkers of all ages\, and an 8 miles option for runner only. Come join the fun!\nProceeds from the race will benefit ministries at camp such as the Chestnut Ridge Campership Fund which helps provide scholarships for children and youth in financial need\, so that they can have positive camp experiences at Chestnut Ridge. By running in the race\, you can help send a kid to camp this summer! The race will be run entirely on trails and camp roads (dirt and gravel). The course will feature rolling hills through old hardwood forests and go around a 10 acre lake. Water stations will be provided.

DESCRIPTION:Make a Difference: The Tarwheels donate all proceeds\, in excess of expenses\, to bicycling-related activities in our community.  In the past 6 years we have donated more than $15\,000/yr.  Recent recipients include Triangle Bike Works\, Bridge2Sports Adaptive Cycling Program\, Durham Bike Cooperative\, the Special Olympics Cycling Team\, and the Carrboro Bicycle Coalition. \nFood: The Tarwheels take pride in the volunteers who contribute time\, energy\, and the tour’s hallmark homemade cookies and baked goods. They have made BikeFest one of the most enjoyable bicycling events in North Carolina.  Refreshments will be provided at the end of the ride\, but all riders are still encouraged to carry their own water bottles. \nRoutes and Support: BikeFest offers a choice of 4 routes/rides: a 35-mile half metric\, a 45-mile\, a 62-mile metric century\, and a 100-mile English century. The 35\, 45\, and 62 routes have 2 rest stops while the 100-mile route has 4 rest stops. All 3 routes have water\, soda\, and cookies 10 miles before the end.  This is a fully-supported ride with rest stops\, refreshments\, and restrooms.  Routes are clearly marked and patrolled by SAG vehicles.  Mechanical support (repair) is provided on a cost-of-parts-only basis \nSAFETY REQUIREMENTS\nANSI\, Snell\, ASTM\, or COSC approved helmets are required.  The Activities will be held on public roads which will remain open to motor vehicle traffic.  Each rider is expected to obey traffic laws and is responsible for his or her own safety.  Earbuds\, phones\, and mp3 players must not be used while riding. \nPAYMENT\nYou can pay by credit card or bank debit (via Paypal). \nNO ON-SITE REGISTRATION \nREGISTER AT: https://www.bikereg.com/bikefest \n

DESCRIPTION:Join Verville Preservation for a half-day workshop on repairing drywall and plaster. We will work in the dining room of the historic Masonic Hall building downtown Hillsborough. \nSome of the subjects we’ll cover include: \n⁃ A brief history of the 200-year-old building \n⁃ Choosing when drywall or plaster is the appropriate material \n⁃ Understanding strengths and weaknesses of the two materials \n⁃ Hands-on repairs of cracked plaster and drywall \n⁃ Methods for patching larger holes \n⁃ How to eliminate sanding \nThis workshop is limited to 15 participants. Verville Preservation will provide some tools\, but bring your own putty knives\, trowels\, and pans or hawks if you have them. \nCost is $20 person. One hundred percent of the funds raised will go to Historic Eagle Lodge Foundation\, a 501c3 that supports preservation of Hillsborough’s Masonic Hall.

DESCRIPTION:This month\, the Chili Billie’s Cooking Team is serving up picnic food to raise funds for preservation of our historic Masonic Hall. They are selling hot dogs\, hamburgers\, chili – of course! – and all the other fixings. We will also have an assortment of chips\, sodas\, and bottled water for purchase\, too. \nThe Chili Billie’s Cooking Team is made up of Tim Walker and Jason Ross\, lifelong friends who were born about two weeks apart and grew up on adjoining farms in northern Alamance County. They enjoy competitive cooking of all kinds but most recently have been traveling the east coast as far north as WV and as far south as Florida cooking in International Chili Society sanctioned chili cook offs\, where both have qualified for the World Championships to be held in Indianapolis in October.

Throughout her over-40-year career\, Teepa has led numerous local\, regional\, national\, and international aging initiatives. In light of the growing prevalence of Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia worldwide\, Teepa has partnered with countless families\, communities\, healthcare organizations\, and educational programs to address evolving needs in dementia care. Together\, Teepa and her partners have made profound impacts on the lives of people living with the disease and their myriad caregivers locally and globally. Members of the dementia care community credit Teepa’s teaching for shifting public awareness\, attitudes\, practice\, and research toward a more positive approach to care\, improving life for everyone involved. \nRegardless of her work settings\, Teepa has called this community home for over fifty years. She came to North Carolina to attend Duke University then UNC-CH. She and her husband raised their family in the Hillsborough area and now enjoy watching their grandchildren discover all our community has to offer. That is why Teepa believes Hillsborough is the perfect place for the next collaborative\, local endeavor. \nPurpose of the Foundation \nOur purpose is to inspire hope\, save lives\, and improve quality of life for people living with brain changes (caused by dementia or another brain condition) and the community as a whole. The new non-profit organization will \n\nbuild on Hillsborough’s prior progress toward becoming a “dementia friendly community” and expand the concept of “dementia friendly” to a fully inclusive community-based model\nimprove access to state-of-the-art information\, services\, and support so that all local residents may live fully in a neurodiverse community\n\nWhat is the Snow Approach? \nThe Snow Approach is a three-pronged approach to care for neurocognitive conditions: \n\nHow Human Brains Work\nChanges Likely with Neurodegenerative or Neurodiverse Conditions\nSkills to Maintain or Build POSITIVE Relationships\n\nThe Foundation’s Programs \n\n\n\nBrain Change Coalition – conversations\, consultations\, education\, engagement opportunities\, and training in the Snow Approach\nSnow Approach Award Program – For Local Professionals – additional training and formal recognition for those who wish to develop a neurodiversity-affirming practice\, along with a registry accessible to anyone seeking trained providers\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur Gathering Place – an open and inclusive community center and possible living space where learning happens\, purposeful engagement opportunities abound\, and people thrive with different strengths and abilities through all stages of life.\n\n\n\nOur goal is to sustain our centrally located world-class center for inclusive community living. Much like the Dementia Village model in the Netherlands\, our center strives to offer a wide range of meaningful activities and life-enriching opportunities. What’s unique about Our Gathering Place is that it is embedded in the fabric of Hillsborough\, NC and surrounding areas\, not a sequestered or isolated space. This multi-purpose setting is designed to enable individuals and their care partners to live longer and happier in the community (i.e.\, empower individuals and care partners with additional support\, increase access to life-long interests\, prevent isolation\, reduce institutional care). \nAccess to Services \nThe Foundation offers many services as a COMPLIMENTARY service to residents of Hillsborough and the surrounding area\, and some services are fee-based. The Foundation seeks donations to fund these services for anyone who is unable pay. The Foundation will establish a legacy program that will continue to benefit all people of Hillsborough\, North Carolina\, and the global community facing the challenges of neurodegeneration for the current generation and more to come.
