Demonstrations are done by The 23rd Regiment of Foot\, Royal Welch Fusiliers in America. \nBut that’s not all! Dive into creativity at the Daughters of the American Revolution National Headquarters doll-making tables or embark on an enlightening journey with Revolutionary War Walking Tours. Immerse yourself in a day of educational experiences\, showcasing the rich heritage and skills that have defined the Occaneechi people \nScholarly talk with Lawrence Dunmore III at the Village – 11am & 1pm \nJust outside of the palisade\, scholar and OBSN member Lawrence Dunmore III will give an engaging talk on the Occaneechi people’s involvement in the Revolutionary War. DESCRIPTION:Pastel Society of NC\n2024 Statewide Art Exhibition\nOPENING FRIDAY\, JUNE 7\nFIRST FRIDAYS AT THE MILL | 6-9PM \nOpen artist studios with the Eno Arts Mill Studio Artists\nLive Music: Triangle Jazz Orchestra\nLocal food truck: TBA\nBeer from Red Oak\, Ponysaurus Brewing\, wine\, and NA beer selections\nArt Activity: Free gelli prints with Eno Mill Studio Artist Freddie Bell\nKids Activities \nABOUT THE SHOW \nArtists from the three pastel societies in NC will compete in the On Common Ground: From the Mountain to the Sea statewide juried exhibition. Finalists’ work will be on display and for sale at the Orange County Arts Commission Eno Arts Mill Gallery – a vibrant artistic hub located in historic West Hillsborough\, NC\, from June 7- June 29\, 2024. \nThe exhibition is a collaboration between The Pastel Society of North Carolina (PSNC)\, The Appalachian Pastel Society\, and the Piedmont Pastel Society. According to PSNC president\, Daphne Boder\, the goal of the statewide competition is to collaborate with the other regional societies in promoting the beauty of the soft pastel medium. Artwork on display will showcase the talents of these member artists some of whom have earned “master “status both nationally and internationally.  Winners are awarded cash and art prizes sponsored by North Carolina merchants and member groups. \nSoft pastel is a loved medium used by many modern artists such as Zaria Foreman and Deborah Stewart and classical greats including Vermeer\, Degas and Renoir. Prized for its brilliant color\, pastel was first used in the sixteenth century\, notably by Leonardo da Vinci. It flourished in the eighteenth century\, again in the late nineteenth century\, and remains popular today. \nAbout Pastel Society of North Carolina: \nFounded in 1996\, the goal of the society is to provide fellowship and encouragement\, promote standards of excellence in the use of the medium and further the education of the general community to the intrinsic beauty and permanency of art created from soft pastels. \n\nAbout the Live Music: Triangle Jazz Orchestra \nThe Triangle Jazz Orchestra is a big band composed of enthusiastic musicians from across the Triangle area of North Carolina. We perform the great American music of the jazz masters of the Swing Era\, including Count Basie\, Duke Ellington\, Glenn Miller\, Artie Shaw\, Benny Goodman\, and Benny Carter as well as more recent jazz and blues tunes. Our 20 musicians including a vocalist play in the traditional big band format with a full horn section for rich harmonies and a complete rhythm section for a driving\, danceable beat.

SUMMARY:Flush Fest 2024! Bigger and better than ever!
DESCRIPTION:FlushFest: World music for world toilets. West Hillsborough’s homemade music and film festival supporting clean water projects globally!\n \nAbout FlushFest\nIn 2017\, independent filmmaker Grace Beeler needed funds to finish a documentary film about a Brazilian sewer system which could serve urban slums. Her neighbor Peter offered to throw her a music festival. And FlushFest was born. \n  \nFlushFest has grown into a West Hillsborough institution. And Grace’s film has grown into larger projects and into an NGO\, After the Rain. This year Flushfest will support the After the Rain project The Appropriate Sanitation Institute.  \n  \nAs always\, FlushFest is a community-building\, fun day. Admission is by donation. There will be plenty of great local music\, kids’ activities\, food trucks\, a photo booth\, croquet minigolf\, and lots of fun. Local hotels will be offering FlushFest discounts\, including the historic Colonial Inn. Come on out and enjoy the day\, or spend the weekend in fabulous Hillsborough.
