SUMMARY:Masonic Hall Guided Tours
DESCRIPTION:The brothers of Eagle Lodge #19 are inviting the community to our historic Masonic Hall building for guided tours from 6-8:30 pm on the last Friday of each month from April to September. Tours are ongoing\, so stop by anytime during Last Friday.\n\nYou will begin with a history of our lot\, located along the Occaneechi Trading Path\, where the Regulators destroyed Edmund Fanning’s house in 1770. We will then welcome you inside and guide you through one of the earliest and most significant Masonic buildings in North America. Designed by North Carolina state architect William Nichols in the early 1820s\, our Greek Revival lodge building was constructed to be a lodge under the supervision of master builders Samuel Hancock and John Berry and was completed in 1825. Inside\, you will learn about the fire that nearly destroyed the building in 1945\, the unique arrangement of masonic lodge rooms\, some of the meaning behind our iconic symbols\, our connections to the history of UNC\, the design feature that was removed from our roof during the Civil War\, as well as the building’s many additional uses. For example\, the building once doubled as the Hillsborough Opera House and during several wars the building served as a hospital or preparatory for the American Red Cross.\n\nWe will also have cold bottled water and sodas for guests\, with additional activities throughout the summer in conjunction with the Arts Council’s Last Fridays celebrations. Tours are free\, though donations to our Historic Eagle Lodge Foundation are greatly appreciated and will contribute to ongoing preservation of our building.

SUMMARY:"Atmospherics" Art Reception at The Little Market
DESCRIPTION:The Hillsborough Gallery of Arts is proud to announce the opening of its new satellite space\, The Little Market\, with an inaugural exhibition by artist Adrienne Knowles. The show\, titled “Atmospherics\,” features a striking new body of abstract landscapes. A reception will be held Friday\, May 30th from 6-9pm in conjunction with the Art Walk. \nThe Little Market is dedicated to showcasing curated\, rotating exhibitions and creative collaborations\, providing a fresh space where artists and the community connect through art. They aim to create new opportunities for both established and emerging artists. \nIn “Atmospherics\,” Knowles explores the emotional and intuitive process of artmaking through a series of richly layered\, abstract landscapes. Working with acrylics\, oil\, cold wax medium and sometimes collage elements\, she builds compositions from color\, texture\, and memory—inviting viewers to experience the quiet mystery of landscapes that arise from within. \nAdrienne shares: “For the last several years\, I’ve focused on non-representational abstraction\, but recently this group of abstract landscapes has taken shape—unbidden at first\, then welcomed wholeheartedly.” \nThe Little Market is located at 118 N. Churton St\, just across the street from the main HGA gallery within Hillsborough Real Estate Group\, and will feature a rotating selection of artist exhibitions\, small works\, and curated collections. Join us for the closing reception of “Atmospherics” on Friday\, May 30th from 6-9pm and experience this exciting new addition to Hillsborough’s art scene. \n“Atmospherics” will be available to view fthrough June 15th\, 2025. The Little Market is open Last Fridays 6-9pm and Saturdays and Sundays 12-4. For more information\, visit www.hillsboroughgallery.com/the-little-market.

SUMMARY:Elemental Form
DESCRIPTION:Artists Nell Chandler\, Ellie Reinhold\, and Evelyn Ward chose the title\, Elemental Form\, for their show\, connecting the lines\, shapes\, and textures in Ward’s pottery\, the designs etched into the metals of Chandler’s jewelry\, and the visual inspiration from nature for Reinhold’s paintings. \nNell Chandler began as a painter and printmaker. With the gift of a beginning class in jewelry making\, she fell in love with metal in her very first class. Eventually Chandler integrated her painting\, printmaking and jewelry fabrication into the work she creates today. Over the years she has been exploring new techniques and combines them into her work. Her “narrative” work tells stories filled with recurring figures and symbols. Often the wearer of a piece of her jewelry will share with her a story of their own. Those special moments affirm her choice of medium to share her art with the world. \nEllie Reinhold’s approach to painting is very loose and organic. The spark might be something very small and elemental\, a particular color combination\, a feeling of distance\, of contrast. Reinhold seeks through painting\, taking a leap of faith. A painting really develops from the act itself – application of color and line. With each blank canvas\, she starts from nowhere with nothing\, first adding random color\, then random marks. The title of the show – usually chosen long before the work begins – can also be a guiding force.  As she paints\, words or phrases come to mind\, and she finds her title in these words. For Reinhold the process is one of clarifying. Canvases begin chaotically\, unformed\, and she seeks the final image through the practice of painting. \nThis winter Evelyn Ward spent time experimenting with a new palette. Drawn to photos of abandoned factories\, with their intersecting and overlapping colors\, her new work references lines of the built environment. Loving what the passage of time and effects of weather do to surfaces\, Ward is using a technique called mono-print transferring to decorate the surfaces.  She paints slip onto cut pieces of paper and then transfers them onto the pot to create the design. She loves the imperfections that this process leaves on the surface of the pot with the underlying dark clay body showing through\, as well as the clean lines she can get from the process. \nElemental Form\, May 27 – June 22\, Opening reception May 30\, 6-9:00 p.m. Carolina Campfire will perform music on the patio in front of the gallery during the art walk. \nThe show will include a talk by the artists in the gallery on Saturday\, June 14th at 4pm. \nAbout the Hillsborough Gallery of Arts: Owned and operated by 20 local artists\, HGA’s offerings include painting\, sculpture\, pottery\, weaving\, jewelry\, glass\, scratchboard\, and handcrafted furniture. 121 N. Churton Street\, Hillsborough\, NC 27278. Phone: (919) 732-5001. The gallery is open 10am-6pm Monday – Saturday\, and 12pm-4pm on Sunday. SUMMARY:First Fridays at the Mill
DESCRIPTION:FIRST FRIDAYS AT THE MILL\nFRIDAY\, JUNE 6 | 7-9PM | FREE & OPEN TO ALL\nOpen artist studios with the Eno Arts Mill Studio Artists\nLocal food truck La Republica Tacos\nLive music from Tre. Charles\nBeer from Ponysaurus Brewing\, wine\, and NA beer selections\nFree Art-making Activities for all ages with Mer Haggerty \nLiberation\nFeaturing Tiffney Marley\n\nWith Guest Artists: Michael Brown\, Reginald Chandler\, Andrea Degette\, Cathy Gilliard\, Tom Guthrie\, Jackie Liggins\, Jennifer Miller\, Denise Page\, Anathea Portier-Young\nABOUT THE SHOW: \nThis show will invoke the spirit of our African ancestors who streamed from the “Cradle of Humanity” and manifested ALL of us into a thriving future despite attempts of annihilation and erasure. Our ancestors vested us with a power that centers love\, joy\, hope\, soul\, determination\, creativity\, dignity\, and shared humanity. It is this power that will indeed help us to navigate the complexities of this moment and enable us to gaze upon and manifest a flourishing\, liberated future for all. With this in mind\, the show will be a mixed-media installation aimed to inspire hope\, human connection and ultimately heal hearts and minds. In the spirit of Sankofa\, “Liberation” will draw on the wisdom of the past\, to inform the complexities of the present\, and ultimately illuminate a future that is inevitable if we stay the course. \nABOUT THE MUSIC\nTre. Charles: The nomadic\, self-taught\, soul searching troubadour has effectively and dynamically been able to disassemble the idea of an artist needing to be accredited to be accomplished. With an old soul and a fresh perspective\, he has cultivated soundscapes and wave therapy on some of the musical worlds biggest stages such as Newport Jazz Festival\, TEDx\, and NPR while simultaneously staying steadfast in his belief of authentic quality over quantity; and it is with that stance that Charles has acquired cosigns from the likes of GRAMMY AWARD winning artists such as Son Little\, Cedric Burnside\, and Hip-Hop legends Digable Planets and Arrested Development; of which he has been direct support on a string of sold out shows. The D’angelico Guitars and Supro endorsed Charles’s inquisitive introspection has caught the attention of over 300k listeners across streaming platforms; not to mention the countless listeners he has captivated at venues\, festivals\, and conferences. His unique sonics have entertained and helped heal those who have listened\, and Charles plans to continue that standard with his newest EP\, “Here We Are.”\, ushering in a new era; elevating his artistry and vision to new heights once again.
