Beverly Scarlett on simple beading techniques as they create unique beaded jewelry. Registration fees cover supplies including gemstones\, tools\, and other materials. Participants will leave with their creations and an understanding of the importance of beading in Indigenous culture. We maintain sacred burial spaces where these individuals and their descendants are interred. Sacred burial spaces include several likely ancient Indigenous burial mounds\, disrupted burial mounds\, a Maroon cemetery where Indigenous and Free People of Color are buried in the same space\, and the Hardscrabble Slave Cemetery.

Established in 1754 as the seat of government for Orange County\, Hillsborough’s colonial legacy and signs of its importance in North Carolina and American history can be seen everywhere. \nThe tour begins at the Hillsborough Visitors Center\, located in the eighteenth century Alexander Dickson Farm House\, and guides visitors to a variety of historic places from the site of a 1790s African American-owned distillery to the 1840s Orange County Courthouse and the grave of one of North Carolina’s signers of the Declaration of Independence. \nThis is an in-person walking tour that sometimes crosses uneven terrain. DESCRIPTION:Make a Difference: The Tarwheels donate all proceeds\, in excess of expenses\, to bicycling-related activities in our community.  In the past 6 years we have donated more than $15\,000/yr.  Recent recipients include Triangle Bike Works\, Bridge2Sports Adaptive Cycling Program\, Durham Bike Cooperative\, the Special Olympics Cycling Team\, and the Carrboro Bicycle Coalition. \nFood: The Tarwheels take pride in the volunteers who contribute time\, energy\, and the tour’s hallmark homemade cookies and baked goods. They have made BikeFest one of the most enjoyable bicycling events in North Carolina.  Refreshments will be provided at the end of the ride\, but all riders are still encouraged to carry their own water bottles. \nRoutes and Support: BikeFest offers a choice of 4 routes/rides: a 35-mile half metric\, a 45-mile\, a 62-mile metric century\, and a 100-mile English century. The 35\, 45\, and 62 routes have 2 rest stops while the 100-mile route has 4 rest stops. All 3 routes have water\, soda\, and cookies 10 miles before the end.  This is a fully-supported ride with rest stops\, refreshments\, and restrooms.  Routes are clearly marked and patrolled by SAG vehicles.  Mechanical support (repair) is provided on a cost-of-parts-only basis \nSAFETY REQUIREMENTS\nANSI\, Snell\, ASTM\, or COSC approved helmets are required.  The Activities will be held on public roads which will remain open to motor vehicle traffic.  Each rider is expected to obey traffic laws and is responsible for his or her own safety.  Earbuds\, phones\, and mp3 players must not be used while riding. \nPAYMENT\nYou can pay by credit card or bank debit (via Paypal). \nNO ON-SITE REGISTRATION \nREGISTER AT: https://www.bikereg.com/bikefest \n
