Author Talk at Historic Masonic Hall

July 29, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Visit Hillsborough’s 199-year-old Masonic Hall building this Last Friday (7/29) for refreshments, history, and hospitality from 6-8 pm. The Rotary Club of Hillsborough will be handing out free lemonade and bottled water on the lawn. Inside, local historian Ernest Dollar will discuss his new book, “Hearts Torn Asunder: Trauma in the Civil War’s Final Campaign in North Carolina.”

The Civil War’s final campaign in North Carolina began on April 10, 1865, a day after Appomattox. More than 120,000 Union and Confederate hardened soldiers marched across the state and collided with thousands of paroled Rebels from Virginia. Grief-stricken civilians, both Black and white, struggled to survive in a collapsing world. Discover the psychological experience of these soldiers and civilians during the chaotic closing weeks of the war in Central NC.

Copies of “Hearts Torn Asunder” will also be available for sale after the reading.

More information about the building, including rental opportunities, is available at https://historiceaglelodge.org/. For more information about the Rotary Club of Hillsborough is available at https://rotaryclubofhillsborough.com/.
