Classic Film: Rogers and Astaire in TOP HAT.

THE HILLSBOROUGH CLASSIC FILM SOCIETY will present Top Hat, starring Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire, with music by Irving Berlin, at 2pm on Sunday, February 26. As usual, our host will be the Passmore Center, 103 Meadowland Drive in Hillsborough, next to the Sportsplex. Top Hat is one of the best, perhaps the very best, of the many dance movies that entertained Americans from the thirties through the fifties, and Ginger Rogers was the best of the several dance partners Fred Astaire had. As a line from a comic strip had it, “Sure he was great, but don’t forget, Ginger Rogers did everything he did, backwards and in high heels.” Our speaker will be Francesca Talenti, herself a director and designer who has exhibited her work at The Folger in D.C. and The Guthrie in Minneapolis, at Sundance and the PBS National. The film is free (as is the popcorn), but please let us know you’re coming by calling the desk at the Passmore, 919 245-2015.
