REGULATOR REMEMBRANCE DAY

The annual Regulator Remembrance Day Event will occur on Wednesday, June 19th, 2019 at 6:00 PM at the Regulator Historic Site, in Cameron Park, 200 East King Street, Hillsborough, NC 27278, on the grassy hill behind the Orange County Board of Education building.

This year’s event marks the 248th anniversary of the same day and date 248 years ago, Wednesday, June 19, 1771 when six early American patriots were executed by English colonial Governor William Tryon on the charge of High Treason against the King of England for daring to question English colonial authority as part of the Regulator Rebellion. In 1771, there was no “Bill of Rights” to protect these brave martyrs to Liberty’s cause.

Begun in 2013, the annual Regulator Day Remembrance Event includes introduction of special guests, historical remarks, reading of the names of those who were executed on this date, a tolling of the bell, followed by a chance for the public to bring and lay flowers at the Regulator Historic Site.

Representatives of Alamance Battleground Historic Site, elected officials, descendants of the original Regulators, and others are expected to be present at this popular event, too.

The event is free and open to the public. People are invited to bring flowers and lay them at the marker site as well during this event.
