Returning to the Source: An Intro to Permaculture
April 15 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Presented by Omar Rezk Orange County Public Library 137 W. Margaret Lane, Hillsborough
5:30pm – 7:30pm
In this introductory workshop, you’ll explore the ethics and principles of permaculture and start reflecting more deeply on the issues we face as humankind: like ecological and ethical degradation, food sovereignty, and community health. This workshop isn’t just about gardens. It’s about building community, deepening ecological literacy, and reconnecting with the cycles that sustain us all. Omar Rezk comes from many worlds and is an expert at weaving them together. Egyptian born and raised in North Carolina, he blends the hospitality and cultural depth of the Middle East with the curiosity and creative expression of the American spirit. Raised in Hurdle Mills, he now homesteads in Hillsborough where his work centers on land, food, and community. Omar is certified in both permaculture design and permaculture education, approaching land stewardship through regenerative principles that cultivate healthy ecosystems and connected communities. After working as a trained immunologist for a biotech firm in Houston, Texas, he returned to North Carolina to focus on land-based work. Today he runs Harvest & Trim, a tree service company guided by permaculture principles, and co-runs Farmer & Poet LLC with his wife Amal Kassir (Hillsborough Poet Laureate), a creative programs and consulting company rooted in land stewardship and community.
