“Gutsy, soulful Americana” – The Cave, Chapel Hill, NC
Twangy, fuzzy rock and roll from Durham, NC, reminiscent of Tom Petty and Neil Young with REM as the backing band. The Yardarm combines the songwriting and singing talents of Jason Bales and JJ Westfield, with Palmer Smith on bass and John Cowan on drums. You can listen to their latest EP “Camp Songs” on all the major streaming services.

Brother Kent is a Durham-based foursome with singer/guitarist Kent Nickerson, drummer Chris Russell, bassist Pierre Lefebvre, and guitarist Josh Flenniken. Driven by Nickerson’s measured songwriting, their first EP “Absent The Glory” tours the American sonic tradition, as well as the landscape—from the moonshine-slur of small town melancholy to the crowded aloneness of the insomniac city, and all the open highways that connect the two.
Rock ‘n roll road songs, barnyard stomps, funky folk, and spacey laments are complimented with locomotive rhythm and scenic guitars—sometimes sweet, sometimes screaming.
Equal parts The National and The Band, it’s Indie-edged Americana with storytelling always at the heart.
