What’s Happening with Communities on the Move?

On July 4th, Congress passed the federal budget proposal (known as the “Big Beautiful Bill”), which includes the elimination of funding for SNAP-Ed.  As a SNAP-Ed implementor, UNC FFORC and its partners rely on this funding to support initiatives like the Fairview Youth in Action, Women on the Move, and Fairview Community Garden. We are now turning our attention to planning for the future and identifying alternative ways to sustain these efforts. We will reach back out as soon as we learn more.

What Will Happen Without SNAP-Ed Funding?

Right now, we have secured enough funding to operate our current program seasons through the 2025 season. This means the Fairview Youth in Action, Women on the Move, and Fairview Community Garden are all able to operate without any interruption for their respective 2025 program terms.

At the same time, we are actively working with our partners to explore new funding sources to keep these important initiatives for 2026 and beyond.

We are strongly committed to keeping Communities on the Move going beyond this hurdle. It’s important, now more than ever, as we work toward creating healthy, active, and connected communities.

As we face these challenges, we also want to celebrate our community’s strength and spirit. Please join us for our 5th Annual Walk Fairview Day on Saturday, August 9th from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Dorothy N. Johnson Community Center. The Fairview Youth in Action interns are planning an exciting and inspiring event this year, you won’t want to miss it!

El 4 de julio, el Congreso aprobó la propuesta de presupuesto federal (conocida como el “Big Beautiful Bill”), que elimina los fondos para SNAP-Ed, el Programa de Educación sobre Asistencia Nutricional Suplementaria. Como implementadores de SNAP-Ed, UNC FFORC y sus socios dependen de estos fondos para apoyar iniciativas como Jóvenes Líderes en Acción de Fairview, Mujeres en Movimiento y el Jardín Comunitario de Fairview. Ahora estamos enfocando nuestros esfuerzos en planificar el futuro e identificar nuevas formas de sostener estas iniciativas. Les mantendremos informadas/os a medida que tengamos más noticias.

¿Qué pasará sin el financiamiento de SNAP-Ed?

Por el momento, contamos con los fondos necesarios para operar nuestros programas actuales durante toda la temporada 2025. Esto significa que Jóvenes Líderes en Acción, Mujeres en Movimiento y el Jardín Comunitario de Fairview podrán continuar sin interrupciones durante sus respectivos ciclos de 2025.

Al mismo tiempo, estamos trabajando activamente con nuestras alianzas para explorar nuevas fuentes de financiamiento que permitan sostener estas iniciativas para 2026 y más allá.

Estamos firmemente comprometidas/os a mantener Comunidades en Movimiento más allá de este obstáculo. Es más importante que nunca trabajar por comunidades saludables, activas y conectadas.

Mientras enfrentamos estos desafíos, también queremos celebrar la fortaleza y el espíritu de nuestra comunidad. Acompáñenos en nuestro 5.º Día Anual de Caminar Fairview el sábado 9 de agosto, de 8:30 a.m. a 12:00 p.m., en el Centro Comunitario Dorothy N. Johnson. Los pasantes de Jóvenes Líderes en Acción de Fairview están organizando un evento emocionante e inspirador este año. ¡No se lo querrá perder!
