Burwell School Derby Day Auction Gala

Get ready to experience the thrill of the Kentucky Derby like never before! Join us for an
elegant evening of horse racing and philanthropy at the Historic Hillsborough Commission’s
Derby Day Auction Gala, benefiting the preservation of the Burwell School Historic Site.
Gather your finest hats and dapper attire as we transport you to the heart of Churchill
Downs right here in Hillsborough. The Whitted Building will be transformed into a vibrant
celebration of Kentucky Derby splendor, complete with wine and cocktails, delectable
Southern cuisine, and, of course, the pulse-pounding excitement of the most exciting two
minutes in sports!

We have an exciting lineup of auction items that will make your heart race faster than a
Derby winner! From unique art pieces to fun experiences, there’s something for everyone.
And every dollar raised goes towards the Burwell School Historic Site. Monies raised at the
auction will:
 Fund the maintenance required to preserve our 200-year-old house and grounds
 Continue to offer free tours to individuals and school groups
 Expand research on Burwell family members, students, teachers, and the free and
enslaved Black individuals who lived and worked here
 Finance innovative educational programs, exhibits, and tour materials
