Poetry Reading: Jerry Eidenier & Dee Stribling

April 7, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church’s Faith & the Arts is pleased to present poets Jerry Eidenier and Dee Stribling for a reading of their work on Sunday afternoon, April 7, at 3:00 p.m.

Jerry is the author of Draw Flame, Catch Fire and Sonnets to Eurydice, and most recently Let Us Love the Land of Here Below. He has taught poetry in the public schools, has received a fellowship at the Vermont Studio Center, and his poem “Fervency of Flesh” won first place in the journal “They Wrote Us a Poem IX.” His work has appeared in various journals and anthologies including 27 Views of Hillsborough and The Virginia Quarterly.

Dee (Hillsborough’s Poet Laureate) writes both poetry and prose. Her newest poetry collection is Just Down the Road. She writes “This collection of poems is a tribute in memory of beloved friends and places embodying the strength, struggle, and tender beauty that can be found in the rural areas where I grew up and have lived.” She has twice been a Sundress Academy for the Arts poetry winner and her poetry has been included in collected works, such as “200 New Mexico Poems.” Her interest in the relationship between people and landscape led her to pursue a degree in geography, focused on cultural and medical geography, and ultimately to a Ph.D. from UNC – Chapel Hill.

The St. Matthew’s Faith and the Arts Series began in 2010 as a result of the church’s desire to be more intentional in their support of the arts and artists; to challenge and deepen faith through exposure to the arts; and to use sacred space as a setting for artistic expression. We look forward to celebrating April Poetry Month with this reading. All are invited and there will be a reception following the reading.
