A Celebration of Billy Strayhorn: Exploring a jazz legacy in Hillsborough

NC State LIVE and the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough present a day of celebration of one of Hillsborough's most notable residents.  Billy Strayhorn, the iconic jazz composer, spent much of his childhood in Hillsborough before going on to his influential career. A Day of Remembrance: Margaret Lane Cemetery

Join The Alliance for Historic Hillsborough, The Northern Orange NAACP, and Music Maker Relief Foundation for A Day of Remembrance. The program will feature a talk by historian Peter Woods and performances by local gospel artists The Kings of Harmony and The Branchettes. The event will culminate with a community procession through the Riverwalk to Margaret Lane Cemetery where handmade flowers will be “planted” n honor of the enslaved men and women buried there.
