Hillsborough’s Merchant Trick-or-Treat: A Sweet Celebration for the Community
October 21, 2024

Hillsborough is ready for a spook-tacular event that will have businesses and trick-or-treaters buzzing with excitement! This year, the new Hillsborough Merchants Association (organized by the Hillsborough Chamber of Commerce will host the beloved Merchant Trick-or-Treat event. With candy, costumes, and community fun on the horizon, we couldn’t be more thrilled to see this cherished tradition continue.
Keeping the Tradition Alive
For years, the Merchant Trick-or-Treat has been a beloved tradition in Hillsborough. Families and kids flock to local businesses, trick-or-treat bags in hand, ready to collect sweets and enjoy the Halloween spirit. This year is extra special, as the Chamber is not only hosting the event but also using it as an opportunity to introduce the re-launched Merchants Association to the community.
“We are most excited about helping to continue this well-received event and giving our businesses even more exposure,” says Scott Czechlewski, CEO of the Hillsborough Chamber. “It’s also a great opportunity to strengthen connections between the Chamber of Commerce and merchants as we introduce the re-launched Merchants Association.”
Who Can Join in the Fun?
If you’re a merchant within the Hillsborough town limits, you’re invited to participate! Though the majority of businesses involved will likely be downtown, the event is open to all merchants across Hillsborough. To get your business on the official “Participating Businesses” map and receive a Community Trick-or-Treat window placard, you can simply email Scott at the Hillsborough Chamber (scott@hillsboroughchamber.com).
Families, you can expect to see dozens of businesses handing out candy and treats to your little ghosts and goblins. Make sure to follow along on social media, too, because the Chamber is encouraging families to share their photos of their costumed kiddos collecting goodies. Don’t forget to tag the Hillsborough Chamber! And here’s the sweet part: they’ll be picking a winner from those who post, and the lucky family will receive a gift card to a local business.
What’s New this Year?
Along with all the usual Halloween fun, this year’s event helps to highlight the newly revived Hillsborough Merchants Association (HMA). The HMA was an active part of the community before the pandemic, but like many organizations, it went inactive during that time. Now, thanks to a joint effort between the Chamber and the Town of Hillsborough, the HMA is back and ready to support the business community once again.
The HMA’s mission is clear: to boost the economic vitality of Hillsborough businesses through events, joint-marketing opportunities, and improved communication between merchants, the Chamber, and the Town. By bringing merchants together, the HMA will create opportunities for collaboration and help address the needs of local businesses. And the best part? Participation in the HMA is free for all Hillsborough merchants!
