Meet Bull Town Fabrics: Hillsborough’s New Haven for Sewists and Creatives

Meet Bull Town Fabrics: Hillsborough’s New Haven for Sewists and Creatives

Nestled in the heart of historic Hillsborough, a vibrant new addition has joined the local arts scene—Bull Town Fabrics, a colorful, thoughtfully curated quilt shop and studio offering inspiration by the yard.

The shop is the vision of Leslie Moyer, a longtime Durham resident with a lifelong love for fabric, creativity, and community. Originally from Davis, California, Leslie’s journey to North Carolina began more than 20 years ago. With degrees in Art, Graphic Design, and Education, she has worn many hats over the years—from educator to caretaker, and now, small business owner and creative entrepreneur.

“I’m Leslie Moyer, a Northern California native, growing up in Davis (home of UCD). I came to North Carolina over 20 years ago, settling in Durham. I have an A.A. in Art, B.A in Graphic Design and an M.A. in Education. Over the years I have changed hats many times,” she shares.

“My love of sewing and creating with my hands started at a very young age, making my first quilt in my teens (sewing all the pieces together by hand). After many years of providing education and caring for children I decided to open an online fabric store for quilters in 2022.”

As any seasoned sewist will tell you, buying fabric online has its challenges. Texture, weight, color—these are things that beg to be touched, seen, and appreciated in person. So while Leslie’s online shop thrived, many customers longed for a local space to shop in real life.

“Many people wished I had a place where they could come and purchase fabric in person. I soon realized that Orange and Durham counties were lacking quality fabric stores, so I was on the hunt for a space…”

That opportunity came in early 2025, when Leslie learned about a Hillsborough storefront through an old friend and colleague. By January, Bull Town Fabrics had officially opened its doors.

Inside, you’ll find a kaleidoscope of 100% cotton fabrics sourced from all over the world—including Australia, Japan, Africa, and across the U.S.—along with a selection of notions and basic sewing supplies. Whether you’re a quilter, crafter, or textile artist, the shop offers not just materials, but creative energy and community.

“Hillsborough’s art scene is very much alive and active,” Leslie notes. “There are many creative and talented people here and I feel that a quality fabric store is a great addition to this town. I hope to connect with the art scene through community events.”

Though the shop is cozy for now, Leslie has her sights set on the future. Her dream is to expand into a larger space with room for workshops, classes, and lessons—fostering a gathering place for learning, sharing, and making.

“It’s never too late to learn something new – Keep curious and creative, have fun!
Life Is Not A Dress Rehearsal.”

With its inviting atmosphere and inspiring selection, Bull Town Fabrics is quickly becoming a beloved creative hub in Hillsborough. Whether you’re a beginner eager to learn, or a seasoned quilter in search of the perfect print, Leslie welcomes you to stop by, say hello, and be part of something handmade and heartfelt.
