Hillsborough & The Turning of the Tide with Randell Jones

February 4, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

New Revolutionary War History in North Carolina with Acclaimed Scholar, Randall Jones.

The Battle of Kings Mountain on Oct. 7, 1780 was the “turning of the tide” in the American Revolution in the South. Although this battle is most associated with Overmountain Men crossing the Appalachians to pursue the arrogant British Major Patrick Ferguson through the farther west piedmont, a new Kings Mountain story can now be told; It begins and ends in Hillsborough.

Hillsborough’s connection to the patriot cause is special enough, but new heroes and new history can now be claimed here. Come hear this exciting new Kings Mountain history on Feb. 4, then join in Revolutionary War Living History Day, Feb. 15. •

Randell Jones is the author of several other award-winning history books including Before They Were Heroes at Kings Mountain, From Time to Time in North Carolina, and Trailing Daniel Boone. He has received two Kentucky History Awards from the Kentucky Historical Society and was honored with the national History Award Medal from the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution. Since 2007, he has served as an invited member of the Road Scholars Speakers Bureau of the NC Humanities Council.

This project is made possible by funding from the North Carolina Humanities Council, a statewide nonprofit and affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
