Hillsborough Celebrates July 4th!
May 5, 2026
Hillsborough will mark the nation’s 250th anniversary with a full day of festivities on July 4, bringing residents and visitors together for a celebration rooted in both history and community life. The event, titled “Together We Are America,” runs from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at River Park and throughout downtown, offering a wide range of activities designed to reflect the town’s past while highlighting its present-day creativity.
Organized by the Town of Hillsborough in collaboration with Orange County and led by the Orange County Arts Commission, the free festival centers on accessibility and participation. A crafts market will fill the park during the day, while local artists, performers, and demonstrators share their work through hands-on activities and live presentations. Music and stage performances are scheduled throughout the afternoon and evening, creating a steady rhythm of entertainment across the site.
History plays a central role in the day’s programming. Visitors can explore exhibits and demonstrations that connect Hillsborough’s Revolutionary-era significance to the broader American story. Nearby, the Occaneechi Replica Village will host living history experiences that offer additional context about the region’s earlier Indigenous heritage.
Hillsborough’s role in the years leading up to and during the American Revolution makes it a fitting place to reflect on the country’s founding. The town served as a political hub in the 18th century, hosting key gatherings and figures tied to the push for independence. That legacy provides a backdrop for a modern celebration that aims to be inclusive and forward-looking.
More than a commemoration, the July 4 event is an invitation to gather, learn, and take part in a shared civic moment. By blending arts, history, and community engagement, Hillsborough’s America 250 celebration offers a thoughtful way to spend the holiday close to home.
