Spring has sprung in North Carolina, and the charming streets of Hillsborough are alive with the vibrant buzz of pollen and excitement! With so much to discover in our quaint little town, we’ve compiled this guide to showcase some absolute must-do activities this season. Let’s dive in and make the most of this delightful time of year!

 

HISTORIC TOURS

Unlocking the gates and rolling out the red carpet, Hillsborough’s historic landmarks and guided tours are open for the season!

  • The Burwell School Historic Site: 319 N. Churton – Free Tours Year Round. Operating Hours: Wednesday through Saturday 11-4 & Sundays 1-4
  • Ayr Mount: 376 St. Mary’s Rd—Paid House Tours are Available Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from April through November. Times Vary.
  • Moorefields: 2201 Moorefields Rd—Free Open House Tours the Last Sunday of Each Month. View their event schedule for additional tours.
  • The Alexander Dickson House: 150 E King – Free Tours Year Round. Operating Hours: Monday through Saturday 10-4 & Sunday 12-4.
  • Montrose Gardens: 320 St. Marys Rd—The gardens are open throughout the Spring. View their event schedule for details.
  • Past Meets Present Preservation Tour: This event, hosted by the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough, will take place on May 18th from 10:30 to 3. View more details on the event page.
  • Churton Street Stroll: Guided by Haunted Hillsborough Tours. Times vary.
  • Historic Hillsborough Walking Tour: Hosted by the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough, this tour is held on the first through third Saturdays of each month, 10:20-12:30.
  • West Hillsborough Walking Tour: Hosted by the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough, this tour will take place on May 18th.

 

 

SPRING FESTIVALS

From concert series to reenactments, Hillsborough has some stellar spring festivals for you to enjoy.

  • Revolutionary War Living History Day – April 6th: Join the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough as we invite you to immerse yourself in the captivating history of the American Revolution through a day of FREE, family-friendly events.
  • River Park Concert Series – April 20th: The River Park Concert is a volunteer-driven, grassroots, free outdoor music event.
  • Hillsborough Excursion Day – May 18th: Experience Hillsborough, the small town with big history, through a day of FREE activities at our local sites.
  • Weekend of Art – May 31st: Coming efforts between May’s Last Friday & the Art WalkHandmade Market, and the legendary Handmade Parade for a destination Weekend of Art.

First & Last Fridays

Immerse yourself in the Hillsborough’s robust art scene. The Orange County Arts Commission kicks off each month with their First Friday extravaganzas, while Hillsborough Arts Council closes out the month with the festivities of Last Fridays & Art Walk.
